"

The smell drifted through the entire house — lemongrass, galangal, garlic, fresh ginger. The kids wandered into the kitchen on their own the moment the soup started to simmer. They didn't ask why we were making it. They just came.

"

Uncle Bernard ate his soup dutifully. Including the ginger — which he'd mistaken for a carrot with a peculiar flavour. Afterwards he asked, with genuine curiosity, what that root actually was. The one he had eaten whole.

"

I've read it several times and admire your writing. I can assure you it landed well and has taken a prominent place. Thank you for that.

— Bernard
"

I felt special and seen that there was post for me. I don't often receive a letter written to me. What I found most remarkable and powerful was the personal insight you give.

— Marit
"

Got post. Didn't see that coming. It's very personal from your side. Original — a lovely idea.

— Remco
"

The experience of opening a letter is lovely. It reminded me of the old days… exciting, what could be inside.

— Marjolein
"

The letter was beautiful, poetic and personal… it says a lot about you and that's compelling to read. Lovely old-fashioned paper and font, playful, looks handwritten — which makes it feel even more personal.

— Lin
"

A stamp like that… look, that's really from the old days. Nice touch.

— Gio

Why Pelan Pelan?

Pelan Pelan means 'take it easy' in Indonesian. It's something my grandmother always said.

I am Tuur — a single father, from Groningen with Indonesian roots. I grew up with stories at the dinner table, with recipes passed down from generation to generation, with the scent of spices as background music.

Pelan Pelan is my way of passing that on. Every month an envelope with a story, a recipe, an image, a poem. Not digital, but on paper. Something to hold.

Sometimes it moves you, often it's light. Always honest.
